Every year lakhs of candidates in Tamil Nadu wait for one notification more than any other, and it is out. TNPSC has published Notification No. 11/2026 for the Combined Civil Services Examination–IV (Group IV), with 6574 vacancies across 46 post entries.
The online application started on 6 October 2026 and closes on 5 November 2026 at 11:59 PM. The written exam is fixed for 10 January 2027, so you have roughly two and a half months to prepare.
Main posts this year
Junior Assistant posts make up the largest chunk – more than 2600 under one code alone. Other big ones:
- Typist – about 1570 posts across codes
- Junior Assistant (Accounts) – 422
- Steno-Typist Grade III – around 360
- Village Administrative Officer (VAO) – 291
- Bill Collector, Tax Collector, Revenue Assistant, Forest Watcher and others
The complete post-code wise list is long, so download the notification and check the codes you are eligible for.
Eligibility
For most posts, including VAO and Junior Assistant, SSLC (10th pass) is enough. Typist and Steno posts need the government typewriting / shorthand certificate as listed. A few posts like Executive Officer Grade IV need a degree.
Age is counted as on 1 July 2026. For most posts the range is 18–30 years (VAO and Forest Watcher start at 21). Category-wise relaxation applies for BC, BCM, MBC/DC, SC, SC(A), ST, PwBD, ex-servicemen and destitute widows, and for some posts certain candidates have no maximum age limit at all. The age table differs post to post, so check it against your community and qualification.
Exam pattern
It is a single OMR exam of 200 questions and 300 marks in 3 hours. There is no interview.
- Part A – Tamil Eligibility-cum-Scoring Test: 100 questions (150 marks)
- Part B – General Studies: 75 questions
- Part C – Aptitude & Mental Ability: 25 questions
Here is the catch many people miss: you must score at least 40% (60 marks) in the Tamil part, otherwise Parts B and C are not even evaluated. So do not ignore Tamil thinking it is easy.
